The Crux are an engaging and emotionally charged quintet of seasoned musicians that combine the sounds of hard rock with a deep blues undertone. Many have compared the sounds and style of the band as earthy as Blue Rodeo to as rocking as the Foo Fighters, showcasing the broad range of influence amongst its members.
Formed in late 2009, "The Crux" released its first 4 song EP '1.0' in June 2010 during their second show to a packed house and rave reviews.
2010 saw The Crux playing multiple venues locally in The Kawarthas area making their mark, and getting the band heard by more and more dedicated followers of the all original band. 2011 bore new beginnings and emphasized new sounds as Andrew Anderson moved to lead guitar while Derek Weatherdon joined the band as the new rhythm guitarist and vocalist. The addition of Weatherdon brought a different set of influences, attitudes, and styles to The Crux.
Very busy throughout 2011, The Crux were headlining shows, making treks to Toronto to The Horseshoe and The Drake, opening for touring acts, winning a major radio station sponsored talent competition, and receiving their first radio airplay.
A major goal overall for 2011, the band had established relevance and a dedicated following. The unique, multi-influence hard rock sound of The Crux was reaching a wider and wider audience. 2011 also saw the band release it's second 5 song EP, 'Soul Pollution'.
As well, 2011 saw The Crux appear on their first festival stage, 'Wolfstock', one of the largest outdoor festivals in eastern Ontario, sponsored by The Wolf 101.5 FM in Peterborough, thrilling the large crowd, opening for Wide Mouth Mason and Big Sugar. The fall was no less busy, with the group remaining in demand for live performances and back to creating more new tunes for their fans.
The Crux have had the honor of sharing the stage and playing with many major label and national touring acts such as Big Sugar, See Spot Run, Who's Army, The Spades, Wide Mouth Mason, Bleeker Ridge, The Paper Lions, The Birthday Boys, and many more, as well as playing several premier venues.
2012 has brought our third return show to The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, and this summer also proves to be a busy one for the band in the festival circuit within Ontario and starting to branch out to other cities we have not yet played in. We look forward to seeing you soon!
