I was raised on the records of Bruce Cockburn, early Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot along with generous amounts of celtic music and classic folk music performed on medievil instruments (a favourite of my dad's).

When I got my first Sony Walkman (from Consumer's Distributing) I started getting into my Dad's tapes like the Eagles.  Being in elementary school at the time nobody knew what I was listening to (which is similar to my experiences these days).  Eventually the peer pressure started to get to me because I started listening to pop radio like Energy 108 in Hamilton.

From there I went to Edge 102 in Toronto and started getting into more alternative stuff.  My tastes became more and more obscure and I had to start seeking out radio on the internet.  I went through Yahoo's Launchcast to BBC streaming radio to Last.fm.  I ended up on Radio3 while researching Basia Bulat after seeing her open for the Great Lake Swimmers at the Black Sheep Inn. It turned out that it was the best place to find her music.

The rest is history.

My tastes have been refined and I am now a huge fan of the indie folk rock tunes of Craig Cardiff, Octoberman, Jim Bryson, Great Lake Swimmers, Joel Plaskett, Ohbijou etc.

I also am into the more diverse musical flourishes of Sufjan Stevens, Danielson and Bifrost Arts.

But I will also take a good dose of the indie pop rock sounds of Stars, New Pornographers and Said the Whale and a metric tonne of other bands.
