They say the definition of “moxie” is to face difficulty with spirit and courage, to have a slightly aggressive energy (in a good way!), to have the skill, the know-how, and be daring and determined. That is exactly what Derek Moxam (aka DJ Moxie) brings to his music production.

In the late 90s, Derek found himself immersed in Toronto’s underground house scene and spun his wares at an array of afterhours clubs. Like many people, he fell in love with the energy, the vibe, the camaraderie and most importantly the music.

He then honed his creative style and skills by studying practical studio work in Audio Engineering at Trebas Institute. Derek served as Technical Engineer for two University of Toronto (U of T) radio programmes, occasionally showcasing his live-mixing abilities on air. He then went on to work as Lead House Engineer for U of T's weekly jazz night at Hart House, and continued to work as a DJ for many large corporate events, including Toronto Pride. He also developed many weekly nights at hot spots around the city where he could showcase his unique DJ style and share his passion for music.

The quest for new adventures and experiences has taken him to all corners of the globe. From the sounds of South Beach, to the bustle of New York. From the modes of Montreal to the the lustre of London and Paris.

Going back to his roots, he now resides on magical Manitoulin Island where he continues to work as an independent remix producer for a variety of projects, always excited to explore the next new sound.

The moxiesound is just that, a spirited and daring take on music.
