I've been playing drums in bands around calgary since 1992, and as I get older my musical tastes have evolved along with that of the Canadian Independent Music Industry, distancing myself from the commercial radio abyss. As a freelance web designer working at home I have the freedom to listen to CBCRadio3 (as well as other streamed internet radio stations) all day, every day, and I believe that this country produces the best music in the world in terms of it's integrity, creativity, and musicianship.
These gifted Independent musicians are Artists making music predicated on the belief that music is an art form, not simply a vehicle for the purpose of chasing celebrity and undeserving wealth . . . it is intended to draw the listener in, inspire them, make them feel something, giving them something they haven't heard before ... Inspiring Them !
Hail to the true artist, whether they're living out of a Van on their way to the next gig, or busking out on the street to get their music heard, because without them all we'd have is the bland, commercial drivel that mercilessly inundates us on the corporate airwaves, gradually lobotomizing listeners into a state of lethargy and dysfunction.
Long Live Hey Rosetta!, Cuff The Duke, Ruth Moody, Dan Mangan, Wintersleep, Stars, Portico, Land Of Talk, etc .., etc ...
The Listening Public owes you all a huge debt of gratitude for doing what you do, whether they realize it or not . . . Shine On You Crazy Diamonds !
