SummerWorks is a 22-year performance festival that takes place August 9-19th, 2012 in Toronto's Queen West Strip.

This year's festival features over 40 plays, 10 nights of music, our inaugural live-art series, and a performance bar starring Ron Pederson and Atomic Vaudeville (Ride the Cyclone)

The Festival is Artistic Produced by theatre-artist, Michael Rubenfeld, who is now in his fifth year at the helm.

This year's music series at the festival features a series of collaborations between musicians and performance-makers.  The collaborations are:

Hawksley Workman, who has collaborated with 2b theatre company on an adaptation of a Greek myth becoming a concept-album for the stage.

Buck 65 pairs with Dance-Maker Ame Henderson on a one-of-a-kind Buck 65 show never seen before and may never again.

The Magic works with theatre and video artist, Jordan Tannahill to release their debut LP, Ragged Gold, with a 70's inspired space-disco dance party.  They are joined by Ark Analog (Maylee Todd and Dan Werb from Woodhands)

Evening Hymns release their new album, Spectral Dusk, with the help of wunderkind installation artists Sean Frey and Sonja Rainey.  They are joined by FIVER (Simon Shmidt from 100 dollars)

rounding out the music series are two main-stage double-bill shows:

Bry Webb (Constantines) & Doug Paisley

Aline Morales & Sandro Perri

In its second year, The SummerWorks Performance Bar presents: Captain Ron's Ship of Friendship | An insane mash-up of bizarro comedy, theatre, music, performance, encounters, video and drunken puppets. This features improv genius, Ron Pederson from The National Theatre of the World and Atomic Vaudeville, the mad-scientists behind some of the greatest shows SummerWorks has ever hosted: Ride the Cyclone and Legloand. We also have a slew of musical guests, including: Mantler, Nomadic Massive, Patti Cake, Suitcase Same, Evalyn Parry, Ronley Tepper and Amanda Leblanc.

The Festival reaches more than 20,000 people a year, and is one of Toronto's most anticipated theatrical events of the year.  The music series, now in its fifth year, has played host to artistis like: The Hidden Cameras, Diamond Rings, Bruce Peninsula, DD/MM/YYYY, Karkwa, Bonjay, Hooded Fang, Think About Life, Miracle Fortress, Matthew Barber, Sunparlour Players, Laura Barrett, The D'Urbervilles, Forest City Lovers, and many more.
