"A whirlwind tour of English song." That's how rising Canadian Mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta referred to the program for her Music Toronto debut recital recorded in March at the Jane Mallett Theatre.

In the first half of the program, Giunta presents the Canadian premiere of Rufus Wainwright's song cycle 'All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu'. The song cycle was written around the time of Wainwright's mother's illness and death, and deals largely with his view of the plight of women. The second half was conceived as a complement to the first; it's an eclectic mix of songs about women - their lives and loves - and includes music from Henry Purcell to Samuel Barber to Noel Coward.
