Rather ironic that Once Upon A Time is the name of this Pro Coro Canada concert. Under the direction of Swiss born, Montreal based conductor, Michael Zaugg, the choral ensemble tackles a body of modern compositions. But then in the choral world more than any other, the music is about the stories.

Indeed, a world of stories are brought to life on the Winspear stage. From 25 year-old Canadian composer, Cy Giacomin to Norwegian Ola Gjeilo only nine years his senior, the youth have a voice in choral music that is being heard. Slightly more seasoned, Ugis Paulins from Latvia, and Danish composer Bo Holten, contribute to bringing a global perspective to the Edmonton locals through the 24 voices of Pro Coro and the recorder of German national, Matthais Maute.

In choral music, it is a small world after all.  And if that song is worming its way into your brain right now, have a listen to this wonderful concert and vanquish that scourge.
