With CBC Ottawa's Alan Neal being asked to curate this circle we had the freedom to not only select the great Canadian cross-section of performers, but ask them to cater their song choices to themes of location and setting, character's point of view, the most difficult or easiest song they ever wrote, and songs about the craft of writing itself. Writers of course come in all forms, not just novelists or journalists, so we've asked these songwriters to explore their medium for tunes that fit the festival. We assembled a wonderful foursome representing Cranbrook,Edmonton, Port Union and St. Mary's, Ontario.
The highlight for the Knox audience was the segment Alan calls his “iPod Shuffle.” His MP3 player randomly selects a song for the artist to cover. They may not have been the tightest songs in the set, but they were the most fun!
