On January 10, 2010, Canada lost a beloved singer-songwriter, Kate McGarrigle, when she succumbed to her battle with cancer at the age of 63. Following all-star tributes in London and New York, friends and family of Kate McGarrigle gathered in Toronto to celebrate Kate's life and work, as part of Toronto's 2012 Luminato Festival.
Kate's sisters, Anna and Jane, her children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, her niece and nephew, Lily and Sylvan Lanken, and Anna's husband, Dane Lanken were joined on stage by Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn, Ron Sexsmith, Jane Siberry, Robert Charlesbois, Peggy Seeger, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Kevin Drew, Amy Millan, Ariel Engle, Andrew Whiteman, Teddy Thompson, Krystle Warren and were backed by musicians who formerly played with Kate.
CBC Music was proud to be a part of this event in order to share the stories and music of Kate McGarrigle.
