We all know Jarvis Church from his days with the hard rocking, R&B group The Philosopher Kings and more recently as a solo love song crooner. Jarvis is an incredible talent with a soulful voice.
His latest project, Jarvis Church's Soul Station, has Jarvis and his crack band of soul musicians taking a look back, way back before the days of The Philosopher Kings. Soul Station is in the midst of releasing a series of recordings that pay homage to the soul singers that influenced Jarvis. The first in that series features the music of Sam Cooke.
For this concert we catch up with Jarvis Church's Soul Station at the Jackson-Triggs amphitheatre in Niagara-On-The-Lake. The Soul Station performs a 1960's soul style revue of all of the great Sam Cooke songs.
But then the surprising part of the night comes when Jarvis sings two of his own songs, “Do It Better” and “She Keeps Me Up All Night”. While these songs were written in 2012 you would never know it. They sound like they are lost B-Sides by Sam Cooke himself.
Incredible!
