This 54-40 concert in CBC Vancouver's Studio 40 was like a love-in. Exciting, at times intimate, and fun the whole night long.
The band was on and the fans were right there with them. It's been more than 25 years since 54-40's first commercial record, 'The Green Album' and this West Coast Canadian band have continually re-defined and re-invented themselves since.
Perhaps best known for 'I Go Blind' and 'Ocean Pearl', they played them all and, knowing all of the words, the crowd sang right along.
Dave Genn arranged acoustic versions of four songs, including 'Crossing A Canyon' and 'One Gun', with a string quartet accompanying. 'One Gun' starts with Neil Osborne alone with his acoustic guitar. He is then joined by the strings and finally the whole band kicks in. Fabulous!
Another fan favourite, 'Since When' starts with Dave Genn (formerly of the Matthew Good Band) on Rhodes and Neil Osborne on electric guitar. Tom Hooper slips in a great B3 part over Brad Merritt’s and Matt Johnson’s infectious groove!
54-40’s latest album is called 'Lost In The City'.
