Update!

Lots of exciting stuff happening with us right now.  Our latest release Mercy has been doing pretty well on college radio, snuck into #40 slot on the earshot college radio charts for March (checkout this month's EXCLAIM!) and we're happy with the reaction to the work.

Some great stuff coming up for us- we've got a great CMW show coming up, and we're confirmed for another cross-canada tour, this time with Larry and His Flask who just tore up the States with Reverend Horton Heat.  It'll be this June starting the 10th for two weeks from Quebec City to Calgary with stops at Toronto's NXNE and Sled Island Music Fest!

Record-wise we're wrapping up writing for our next yet-untitled release due out in May and heading into the studio again with our good friend and savante-producer Brian Moncarz in the next couple weeks to record.  We feel like we're pushing the enveloppe a bit further with this next one and we're really happy with the material so far so watch out for that soon.

Hello hello,

Well it’s been a little stretch since our last foray into the blogosphere…

What better way to finish off 2010 then a cross-country brawl with the savages from White Cowbell Oklahoma and Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz?  It was 18 shows from Montreal to the snow-blown mountain goat paths of Whistler, down Vancouver’s sea-to-sky highway and back again, it was a tour worth remembering.  Naturally, there were van problems; nightmare weather, biker gangs, and freezing cold load outs.  But the baptism by ice that is a cross-Canada tour in December is a rite of passage for any Canadian band worth hearing and though it wasn’t our first something tells me it won’t be our last.  A huge thanks to WCO and Big John Bates Grindshow and the tour’s sponsors Exclaim!, Jagermeister, and Gretsch Guitars. 

While the city took its time shaking off winter, we were fixing the van, re-fuelling the bank accounts and renewing writing for the new record.  We continue to write and track and it’s taking us a little longer than we’d hoped but it will be worth the wait- the new sound is groovier, with more complexities and more chain-gang era vocals.  The banjo-rock-gospel territory is still very fertile and we are really happy with the progress we’ve made.  Checkout our bandcamp for a shot, but you’ll have to come out and see us if you want the whole bottle.

Speaking of live, we are hitting the road for NXNEastCoastSCENEsters 2011 tour in June.  Why? Cause ‘catchy’ sounding tours are too easy to pronounce.  After our June 18th NXNE showcase we’re gonna hit the Eastern shores with the help of our friends at Herohill www.herohill.com before we drive our asses back across Quebec and Ontario to St-Catherines for a final rock purging at S.C.E.N.E. music festival.  See you in June!

Ahhhhhhh much to discuss, I used to dislike writing blogs every six months but this way there’s more to say, plus my long term memory is better than short term now though they’re both pretty awful.  Lots of good news though.  Alright, I’m organized, let’s do this shit chronologically….

Wow, we're bad at this blog thing.... sorry it's been so long!  Lots of stuff happening with the Fair- lots of new songs, some great NXNE showcases you can checkout on our page, we're lining up summer tour dates out East in August, some more ontario dates in June, and going west again in the Fall. 

Really hoping they can stop this oil leaking in the Gulf.  It's still leaking....

So I'm sitting here drinking rum and eggnog.  We're taking a little breather over the holidays and thought we'd blog a bit. 

Some momentous updates:

1- The release of 'Gospel' and the Cross-Canada tour were very successful.  Great turnout for the show, with lots of our good friends joining us on stage (including the Speaking Tongues).  As for the road, we're not dead, only mild sickness (no swine flu) and we covered a ton of miles.  Show highlights include Halifax (w/ the Grass), Montreal(w/ The USWM), Winnipeg (w/ the Arkells), and Vancouver (w/ Minto).  We shared a stage with some inspiring acts and saw Canada's vast beauty first-hand.  We also slipped over the border and played a show in Minneapolis, MN that was awesome.

3. We scored the opening slot for the annual New Years Eve bash @ the Horseshoe Tavern alongside Ron Sexsmith and (naturally) the Sadies.  Tickets are available at Soundscapes and Rotate This, Ticketmaster, or at the bar itself.  We've got some new material and we're opening for some of the best Canadian talent out there.

5. 2010 is going to see us doing another East coast and West coast tour, and tying in some U.S. dates.  More details to come.

First off I want to welcome our new drummer Pete Garthside!  He's not so new anymore, 2 months now I think, but we've probably played 10 shows with him already and he's awesome, brings a whole new dynamic to the group, like good looks, haha.  Before this guy came along I thought that all that mattered was the ability to play fast and that my knowledge of musical theory and skilled musicianship were adequate.  We're really pumped to have Pete in the band, come check him out at one of our upcoming shows!

Secondly I just wanted to post a couple of recent interviews we did that were in writing and not on the radio.  Because we're new to the interview thing this was a learning experience for me, it turns out that what I say in interviews can get kind of misconstrued when it's in print (or perhaps I just don't convey what I'm thinking well).  I ruffled a few feathers by accident, anyways now's my chance to reiterate a couple of points!
