I’m pretty sure the band is all in agreement that New Year’s 2009/2010 was the best one we’d ever had individually or collectively. We got to open for our heroes the Sadies at their annual New Year’s Eve bash at the Horseshoe Tavern! Ron Sexsmith played that one too. We tried to keep our cool most of the night but we LOVE the Sadies and we couldn’t help but gush. Those gentlemen even dedicated a couple songs to us, now we just have to open for Nomeansno…
We toured around Ontario in February, March and April. In that time “Gospel” garnered some really great reviews that we’re very proud of including Now Magazine, The Torontoist, The Kitchener Record and many more. Here’s a couple:

The Untold City conducted this video interview with us before our Horseshoe show in February. They make everyone they interview say bad stuff about their website at the end of the interview, I was stumped so Pete really took charge with that:

Also thanks to Iheartthemusic and the other blogs/press that came out to the shows.
Between out-of-towners we returned to do a set for Canadian Music Fest at Sneaky Dee’s Friday at midnight. CMF and NXNE are my favourite weekends to be a Torontonian, I don’t know that all the great acts playing and the bars being open until 4:00 a.m. really helps our performance the following day but goddman it’s fun! CHARTattack came out and reviewed the set which landed us in a 5-way tie for 6th place overall at the festival, which was quite an honour, thanks guys! Amongst other reviews of the show there was one that totally cracked me up cuz this woman calls me a douche bag or a “D-Bag” in it hahaha, I can explain my behaviour but it’s a lot funnier if I don’t. Take a gander:

Later in March Dan Wolovick introduced us to an astute gentleman named Simon Becker-Sedava, they’ve decided to shift around roles a bit with Simon taking on the managerial job but Dan taking on a number of other roles within the band and remaining heavily involved in all things Schomberg. Simon can be reached at simon@blackskyline.com . We’re excited to be working with Simon who’s already proved to be a great asset to the band and we are as always, very grateful for the continued hard work of our good friend Dan Wolovick who’s been and continues to be a big reason we have awesome stuff to tell you about in these blogs.
At some point in this period we learned that we were being considered by the judges for the Polaris prize long list which was pretty exciting. Unfortunately we didn’t make the long-list in the end but we did make the SHORT list for the Shadow Polaris prize which is voted by fans. Here’s the site where you can vote for “Gospel” once a day http://one.nxew.ca/2010/06/round-2-of-our-2nd-annual-shadow.html
NXNE was a great time as always. We did three sets at the festival which concluded with a midnight set at the Dakota Tavern Saturday night. This fantastic dude named Adam Kreeft, from Underground Operations’ Booking Agency came out to see us, Simon performed a series of Jedi mind tricks on him and now he’s our booker. Here’s his website:

He handles lots of awesome acts that you’ve heard of and many that you’re probably into as well. We like the diversity of his roster and the cut of his jib. We’re looking forward to a long relationship with Adam. For future booking inquiries contact Adam at kreeft@undergroundoperations.com
So that’s the past to the best of my recollection, here’s what’s happening next….
