The Vancouver born Christina Maria, a.k.a. Rykka, has taken a turn from her singer-songwriter path and headed into the world of distorted electric guitars and synth. Not to worry though, with new songs like “Blackie” it’s hard not to like the change. It also doesn’t hurt that Ryan Guldemond (Mother Mother) had his magic fingers all over this new record as the producer. It is also worthy to note that each song on the new album is sung from perspectives of different animals. If that doesn’t intrigue you, nothing ever will.
Rykka’s Kodiak is out May 28 from Vissen Records.
