biographical info
Repartee’s music has been described as ‘the kind of music that allows you to let loose while dancing, without giving a f*** about how foolish you look’ (the Muse). They play pop unabashedly, with spurts of rock and electronica. In a short period of time they’ve commanded a devoted following in St. John’s through their dynamic live show. It’s that sort of buzz that led to them receiving a MusicNL Sound Recording Grant to make their first self-titled full-length album. They’ve shared the stage with such notable acts as Mother Mother, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Hey Rosetta, Rich Aucoin, Michou, Jenn Grant, Peter Elkas, Haunted Hearts, Mark Bragg, Shotgun Jimmie and Matthew Hornell and the Diamond Minds. They were voted Best New Band of 2010 by readers of The Scope, as well as the Newfoundland Herald’s Band to Watch for 2011. They showcased several times at the 2011 ECMAs in Charlottetown, including the Satellite Awards ECMA Afterparty, and they will be returning to showcase at the 2012 ECMAs this year. They also showcased at the 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion. Most recently, they were shortlisted for the 2011 Atlantis Music Prize. Poignant, honest lyrics that somehow sit perfectly in catchy, danceable pop – Repartee signal a shift in Newfoundland music.
