isKwé is a TripHop
and RnB singer/songwriter originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Working on her second album, she comes
from a mixed family of Irish and Cree/Dene (Aboriginal) and pulls from both of
her cultures for a sound that is as unique as she is.
Over the years she
has developed an ability to reach her audience both on and off stage with a
warm and personable vibe. Through classical training in both piano and voice,
isKwé has been able to combine her training with an urban flare, developing her
sound as a singer, songwriter and performer.
Committed to giving
back to the Native community, isKwé has focused on promoting positive change
and education through facilitating youth workshops with a large focus on music
and the arts, as well as supporting various native youth organizations, both in
Canada and the USA. In 2008, she
was invited to perform at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO, for
the Native Nations Uniting for Change gala at the Denver Art Museum. In addition, she has performed at such
events as Aboriginal Music Week in Winnipeg, MB, NAYA’s fundraising gala at the
Portland Art Museum, the Canadian Aboriginal Festival in Toronto, ON, the
Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, NM and various music festivals.
Following her passion
and career path, isKwé found herself in the heart of the music industry in late
2007 when she relocated to Los Angeles, CA. She has since been traveling back and forth between LA, New
York City, and Toronto, working with various award winning producers on her new
album, offering a mix of her previous album’s smooth RnB vocals, blended with a
new taste of old style TripHop, heavy beats and booming bass lines.
IsKwé’s first single,
“Wandering” from her upcoming album has been climbing the charts of the NCI
National Top 30 Countdown, and is currently in the #7 spot and was recently
included in Hip Hop Canada’s Who’s Got Next compilation CD (supported by Hip
Hop mogul Marc Ecko).
IsKwé is finding her
audience in the best way possible; through heartfelt, intensely personal music
that can strike a chord with anyone and through a steady stream of playing
throughout Canada and the USA. With a new year before us, and an album in the
works, 2010 is destined to be a great year for isKwé.
