A destined encounter between singer/songwriter Elsieanne Caplette and drummer Stephane Sotto led to the creation of Elsiane, a duo that combines much more than its creators' given names. Born out of this pairing is a true hybrid, a singular artistic vision that finds expression in intuitive and unbound creativity. Each piece on Elsiane's debut album, Hybrid, is an invitation to float atop a mysterious and beautiful sea, a deep pool of sound whose reflections appease as much as they disquiet.
Elsiane orchestrate an elaborate soundscape using a palette of their own. Lovers of film and visual arts, they reference filmmakers Darren Aronofsky, Chris Cunningam and David Lynch as direct influences. "Vaporous" and "Mend" evoke epic musical imagery with sounds that blissfully marry electronica, classical orchestration, world music and jazz with Elsieanne's Chinese and Peruvian musical heritage. But what strikes one most about this elaborate musical portrait is Elsieanne's angelic yet haunting voice.
The year 2001 saw the return of Elsieanne from her native Peru to her roots in Montreal. With her enchanting vocals and skillful songwriting, she swirls around Stephane's forceful and creative drumming. Soon followed producer David Kakon and a team of renowned musicians and professionals, who artfully surrounded and amplified Elsiane's musical vision. The list includes mix engineer Robert Heaney, bassist Kevin Desouza, guitarist Simon Angell as well as a very special collaboration with the legendary Bob Ezrin on the recording of the string orchestra.
The unveiling of Elsiane's musical journey takes place April 24th, 2007.
The album Hybrid now available in Canada.
