“BEEKEEPER is either absolutely brilliant or incomprehensibly weird. It must be both.” (3am Revelations).
“BEEKEEPER feels like a modern-day Andy Kaufmann starring as Frank Zappa in an accessible and impossibly infectious radio-ready indie rock band. There is something deeply profound and wonderfully entertaining here.” (Backstage Rider)
BEEKEEPER is an indie post-pop power trio from Vancouver consisting of comedian Devon Lougheed, protein synthesist Luke Cyca, and opera singer Brandi Sidoryk. Our music blends together infectious hooks, stunning male/female harmonies, and unsettling math-rock dissonance. Our music and live shows are infused with good-natured twists, pranks, and hoaxes that keep listeners guessing.
Our live show is quirky, high-energy, and musically satisfying. Influenced heavily by Lougheed’s stand-up comedy experience, “beekeeper live” means fun, laughter, and dancing; it is not rare for our sets to end with the entire audience grooving with us on stage. “My hands stung from clapping [and] my cheeks hurt from laughing” (UmMusic blog). Members of beekeeper also play in Hey Ocean!, Sidney York, and Katie Rox; our collective experience on stages of all sizes contributes to an impossibly tight and comfortable live show.
The Georgia Straight called our music "rambunctious [and] packed with clever math-rock rhythms, cutesy boy-girl vocals, and off-the-cuff flourishes that deserve a sack full of gold stars.” Our debut album, BE KEPT, charted on campus radio stations across Canada, lead single “Sudden Cuckoo” enjoyed high rotation on CBC Radio 3, and over 1000 copies have been sold/downloaded. Our new seven-inch vinyl will be released on May 5th, but you can have a copy now if you ask nicely.
We are always on the road; touring highlights include sold-out headlining shows in Vancouver and Toronto, performances at Rifflandia (Music BC showcase) and Pop Okanagan, and numerous regional tours of Western and central Canada.
Come on, you know you wanna BE KEPT.
