biographical info

Best known as a member of the crowd pleasing Halifax based band Caledonia, Zac Crouse is no stranger to a fan’s love when he pulls out his banjo for great hits like I’m Tired, Automatic and the ECMA nominated and top 10 charting Scott’s House (CBC3).

Zac first started playing music seriously as means of coping with living in  Oklahoma for employment. Upon returning to NS, his first gig was a brief stint in a folk band with Juno Award winner Loel Campbell of Wintersleep. He followed up that project with three albums, four ECMA nominations and a stack of music videos with his band Caledonia accompanied by his equally talented friends, Steve Gates, Ian Bent and Kris Pope.

Still busy writing and performing with Caledonia, Zac continues to work on his solo banjo project, a collection of acoustic pop songs about ladies, politics and adventure. Inspiration can be found in the unique places and adventures he finds from the seat of his kayak. He’s traveled many white-water rivers in Canada, the US, Mexico and Uganda with a banjo or ukulele stowed snugly in the back of the boat, ready for inspiration.

Zac’s 1st solo album ‘You Plan to do Nothing’ has come about with the support of talented friends like Old Man Leudecke, Tanya Davis, Don Brownrigg & Jordi Comstock. Helming the project is producer Daniel Ledwell (In Flight Safety, Jenn Grant, Christina Martin).

Hfx Media Co-op Birthday Party, March 5th – Bus Stop Theatre

posted by zaccrouse

I’ve been geeking out with interactive topo maps on ACME mapper.

My good pal Chris Eager showed it to me – so now I’m using it to plan the trip route with it.

Great news: the good folks at VIA Rail have agreed to  provide transportation from Halifax to Ottawa. I will kick off Paddle To The Ocean with a show at Raw Sugar on April 28th, with Steve Gates.

Also, I’ve recieved key equipment sponsorships from Salus, Immersion Research, & Shred Ready.

‘Still looking for a boat sponsorship ….

* Please come out to the Bus Stop Theater on Saturday March 5th for the Halifax Media Co-op’s Birthday Party. I’m going to play a few tunes to support ethical journalism. There will be  birthday cake, snacks, treat bags, skits, stories, games & a silent auction with items from local businesses, artists, authors, and musicians.
