Having been brought together by accidentally enduring a toxic chemical spill together in 2004, vocalist Chris P and guitarist Mykle Manyaci spent the subsequent years crafting the all-original, anthemic, pop-literate sound that would come to be known as You vs Me.
As it was, Mykle and Chris P were both bartenders at the same establishment, and during one of their shared shifts, one of the machines behind the bar leaked all its internal cleaning solvents and we had no idea until Mykle, who was already nauseous, saw a new shade of green and white, previously unthinkable for a human’s face, on Chris P’s face.
“During the chemical spill, we decided to go back to my house as it was nearest, to rest it off and recover. Chris began to play one of my guitars, I followed in kind with another one of my guitars, and “What I See” was written within about half an hour.” explains Mykle. “It wasn’t until then that, after working together for the previous year, we realized we’d grown up around the corner from one another.”
“It all seems like the perfect script for a comic book. Maybe it was just our altered mental states from having unknowingly huffed toxic fumes for at least an hour, but there was instantly some unlikely, but terrific, chemistry… no pun intended” amuses Chris P. The seed was then planted that Chris P, coming from a folky/roots rock background, and Mykle coming from a metal and hard rock background, that it was time to blend them somehow. “We just mixed the two! It’s a lot of fun for us to play… it’s like, pop-punk-folk-metal done on our own scale”, no doubt made possible by the eventual addition of rhythm section made up of drummer and longtime family friend of Mykle’s, Curly, who after finally agreeing to join, brought his very aggressive drum style, courtesy of his drum-corps training.
Newest member/Bassist David Q Pyle, was introduced to the band by the rock gods at Craigslist, and comes from a Rock/Metal and folk-funk background that instantly clicked with Chris P’s, Curly’s and Mykle’s style, confirming his awesomeness and solidifying his position in You vs Me.
Songwriting is most often spontaneous for You vs Me, deriving most of the new material from Jam sessions. “We all contribute ideas equally which just seems to be the most natural way for us to do it.”, they all nod in agreement.
In the last year, You vs Me have independently secured consistent rotation and charted at many indie and college radio stations across North America with their new songs “Break” and “Said and Done” off newest EP, “The Book Of…”, and garnered international licensing and notoriety with “What I See” and “Going Home” from their 2009 debut EP, “The Borrowed”.
You vs Me’s current catalogue consists of over 30 original songs, a live set of over 15 songs, and the band is anxious to get back on the road and show people what the new You vs Me is all about. With their unmatched enthusiasm, You vs Me are destined to make their unique brand of alt-pop-hard-folk-punk rock resonate within hearts and minds across the world.

"Sprawling, hook-driven rock, that's strewn with supercharged guitars, soaring vocals, and a catchy, anthemic spirit. Riff-friendly and adventurous. Onwards and upwards for the band."
“These upstarts wield guitar-driven energy with a youthful, freewheeling spirit ready to make their mark. Hooks/harmonies meeting soaring driving indie rock is proof that the formula continues to work as well as getting you movin’.”
