biographical info

Yuka's unique brand of energizing, funk music has been packing dance floors around the GTA since the group's formation in 2006. The band's intricate, yet accessible arrangements are influenced by a wide array of artists such as James Brown, the Headhunters, Lettuce, Phish, and many more groove oriented Funk/Fusion bands.

The music of Yuka was born in the rehearsal rooms of Humber College. This fertile music environment has been the breeding grounds for many fantastic musicians, and stellar funk/hip hop bands such as KC Roberts, and The Pocket Dwellers. The members of Yuka clicked right from the start of their early jam sessions, sharing a mutual admiration for dirty funk grooves and improvisation.

It wasn't long before they took their act to the stage to share their landmark groove sounds with the world. Yuka has since been playing gigs around Toronto since the summer of 2006 sharing the stage with such notables as Moses Mayes, Daft Punk Tribute, and the Ninja Funk Orchestra.
Yuka now holds down a bi-weekly house gig at the Concorde cafe, where they further develop their own funk stylings and invite out other hot acts from around the Toronto scene. Yuka first self-titled CD was launched in May 2007 @ the Tranzac in front of a sell out crowd. The first pressing of the disc sold out that night, which prompted the band to order more copies of their in-demand debut. YUKA is expecting to keep the high energy funk jams rolling with a new album due out in early 2009. Stay tuned for all Yuka developments, and improvisations as they naturally progress.
