biographical info
Vancouver-based band World
of Science formed as a three piece in June of 2001. Like a deciduous
tree, each May the band would grow as its members returned from schools
across the country, and each September it would wither as they left
again.
By late 2005, the band had
become a coniferous tree, and featured the four-member lineup it has
today. Working for two steady years on their debut, makeout songs
by World of Science, the band was more than ready to release the
album in January 2008.
World of Science is currently
distributed in an open agreement with Treehouse Records, which also
distributes Vancouver-based band Children of the CPU. Both Cam and Veronica
are members of that band.
Cameron Shay
The brains behind the operation,
former Ottawa resident and current visual artist Cameron has mastered
the art of small scale studio recording and electronics. Saving the
band untold millions in studio fees, Cameron recorded, produced and
mixed all of World of Science’s debut album in his bedroom.
Kelly Schmidt
Holding down the low end of
the band on bass, Kelly created the visual look of World of Science.
Responsible for the art direction and photography of makeout songs,
Kelly found the world’s most perfect motel for the band’s album
art in her hometown of Ladner, British Columbia. She had partied
there as a youth.
Veronica Rossos
Toronto native Veronica brought
her shining golden voice to the World of Science collective in 2006,
bringing seasons of experience singing karaoke with her. Veronica introduced
her bandmates to the pleasures of the Howard Johnson on Kingsway’s
karaoke night, where World of Science now practices stage presence every
weekend.
David Eby
Contributing sad bastard lyrics
to World of Science comes easily to David, who has an undergraduate
degree in English from the University of Waterloo, a school primarily
known for its Engineering program. David grew up in Kitchener, Ontario,
and is a former member of Guard! the precursor band to the Approachables.
