bio - The explosive debut album “Crazy Life” by Will Belcourt and the Hollywood
Indians is an energetic stomp of hard hitting dynamic rhythm guitars and
soaring melodic leads with soulful gritty vocals and thundering loud hypnotic
tribal influenced drums! This album is a raucous mixture of rock based
influences that delivers a powerful punch to the hearts of guitar driven music
everywhere!
“I’vespent some time having fun with experimenting with genre and artistic direction
but I thought it was time to show people what I sound like live with my band the
Hollywood Indians” explains Will Belcourt, frontman/guitar
player and songwriter for the band. “We recorded, mixed and mastered this album
in ten days at the Physics Lab in Edmonton Alberta this spring which is no
easy feat. We didn’t use a click track or any other studio magic or gizmos to
make us sound better then we actually are“ he chuckles. “We played live off the floor for most of the takes and went back in to do surgery on some lead guitars and vocals. We made
it our business to present an honest artistic expression of what we do live. I
think we needed to prove to ourselves that at the end of the day we are just a
bunch of good friends that love playing and making music and our approach in
the studio needed to reflect that by being as honest as possible in terms of
where we are artistically. There are a lot of ways to record an album these
days with the vast amount of technology available and so many talented producers
and engineers in all the various genres and we are not saying the way we
recorded this album is the best way but this time around it really worked well
for us…I know we captured some fantastic moments that we’re all very proud of”
says Will with a big smile showing off his excitement and enthusiasm for his
latest work. It definitely shows. “Crazy Life” by Will Belcourt and the
Hollywood Indians showcases not only Will’s skillful song writing and
his ability as a guitar player and the ability of his band but also his skills
as a producer. This new album rocks!
Will Belcourt is an award winning artist from Marlboro, Alberta who has garnered respect and attention for his live shows as well as his career as a recording artist. He has received nominations from award shows that include the APCMAS and CAMAS in categories for Best Pop album, Single of the Year Songwriter of the Year, Best Album Cover Design, Best New Artist, Best Producer/Engineer , Best Rock Album, Best Male Artist and Best Song Single”. In 2011, at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Toronto he won for Best Rock Album! He has appeared on television and has been featured in print for various magazines, newspapers, and online blogs and his music is in heavy rotation on radios around the world.
He has toured extensively honing his musicality in bands ranging from rock to
solo acoustic showcases. In 2011, Will and his band “the Hollywood Indians”
were invited to perform at the prestigious RBC OHSHKII AWARDS NIGHT, a premier
APCMA event where awards were handed out and performances were given by some of
the finest entertainment in the world. He has had the opportunity to share the
stage with many great artists such as Shane Yellowbird, Tom Jackson, Laura Vinson,
Digging Roots, Dwight Yoakam, Big Sugar, Billie Joe Green, Star Nayea, Donny
Peraunteau and many many more.
The Hollywood Indians are comprised of a talented group of artists that Will has been playing
with off and on for the past 5years and is made up of younger brother Allen
Belcourt, who creatively holds down the bottom end with his heavy bass
grooves. Allen is also a well-respected and award nominated actor who has
appeared on lead roles for television and the silver screen having worked on
such productions as “Mixed Blessings, Moccasins Flats, Dreamkeeper,
Little House on the Prairie (remake) and Into the West” and many
others. Evan Murray originally from eastern Canada, is a talented
musician and creative force who plays drums in the band has just completed his
first solo album.
Will Belcourt and the Hollywood Indians will be kicking off a tour of North America late this
summer and plans are in the works for a tour in Europe and Australia. Music
videos and the completion of “My Brother Sky” a documentary of
Wills career are in the works as well as a host of other media related
initiatives.
