Whitebrow is 22-year-old singer-songwriter Gabriel DeSantis.
Hailing from Burlington, ON, the folk-blues musician got his start playing gigs as "Whitebrow" in Ottawa while attending Carleton University (The name playing off a pigmentless patch of white hair on DeSantis' brow).
After returning to Burlington, DeSantis spent most of the summer recording and mastering what would become the debut EP, "All's Still Before the Storm."
Released to a full house at The Free TImes Cafe in September 2011, The EP has garnered attention from several Music Publications. Popular blog, T.O. Snob's Music, says the EP is "a great, mellow, slightly spooky take on the folk genre... The album is a great fit for a late summer night." While The Indie Machine simply remarks, "Honestly, there's not a song on it we don't like."
The first track off the EP has also been selected to be a part of the "Amazing" Compilation. Set to be released in November of 2011, "Amazing" is a Canadian Cancer Society benefit album featuring tracks by other Canadian artists like Great Lake Swimmers and Bob Egan of Blue Rodeo.
Inspired by singer-songwriter forefathers like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Paul Simon, as well as the neo-folk movement fronted by the likes of Bon Iver, Timber Timbre and The Tallest Man on Earth, Whitebrow continues to make regular appearances on the Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto circuit.
Whitebrow's music can be both calming and unsettling with a focus on lyrical imagery.
As German music blog, Wasfeursohr puts it, "It masterfully manages to catch a certain feeling that most people know too well. With guitar and harmonica, Whitebrow has a way of underlining the delicate feeling of seeing the first sunrays after a storm and subtly give you enough reason to hope for a better day tomorrow."
