For a band whose name comes from an odd family heirloom, and whose sound can only be described as genuinely unabashed dance floor rock, Whale Tooth defy nostalgia yet simultaneously remind listeners of another era in music. A time when instantly familiar guitar riffs and boy-girl vocal hooks brought the kids out on the floor without hesitation.

Formed through mutual friends and a mutual conviction that indie music ought to get ones' blood running fast, since 2008 Whale Tooth have already played over 150 + shows including gigs at NXNE and Steam Whistle's Unsigned Music showcase.  The only thing that could make them more endearing at this point would be having their first single "Hibernation Song" featured on the beloved television drama, Degrassi - The Next Generation...which is good news, since they've done that too.

Front-woman Elise LeGrow has found the secret to infusing her classic jazz background into traditional indie-rock. Her powerful, effortless vocals coupled with Norm Maschke and Alex Denike's guitar and back-up vox "will ignite the fire in your soul, and make you 'twist and shout' over and over again"  (Earshot).  With Sep Noroozi (drums) and Michael McCreary (bass/vocals) providing the rhythms, the band looks to continue to expand their repertoire and excite new audiences.

Coming off their successful 5-song EP which saw them play with the likes of Tokyo Police Club, Mother Mother, Hey Ocean and a stop at the Rifflandia Festival – Whale Tooth is currently in the studio working on their first full-length album with Darryl Neudorf.   A lot has happened in a short period of time for a band whose been busy converting jaded indie fans into ardent believers with NOW Magazine proclaiming that "any new wave references are more Elvis Costello than New Order. [Whale Tooth] excels at bouncy, major-key guitar pop crammed with hooks and just enough soul to stand out.

NXNE 2011...where did you go?

posted by Whale Tooth

G'day everyone! We had ourselves an incredibly busy (but really fun) NXNE. Saw some good shows, had some drinks...and enjoyed the stunning weather! Thanks to all of you that came out and danced at Sneaky Dee's Saturday night.

More thanks to those of you that enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the park with us on the Thursday. If you couldn't make it, check these out! Thanks to Humble Empire and Young Lions Music Club for putting it all together! (NOTE - tried to link to the youtube videos, but being as limited as I am with computers, it was an unsuccessful attempt.)

If you haven't had enough of us yet, then you should definitely come out to the Horseshoe to see us open for Hey Ocean! this Saturday, June 25th. This one promises to be a raging good time. After that, it's off to St. Catharines for this year's SCENEFest! We're playing around 4pm, so come get sweaty. Off we go! Don't be a stranger! WT
