biographical info
Winter Equinox is a mostly instrumental quartet that creates music with elements of post-rock, electronic, glitch, and experimental sounds. The band places an emphasis on heavily layered arrangements to create intense soundscapes, while combining lyrical melodies with catchy bass grooves. The group consists of Lauren and Robyn from Dundas, Dan and Brad from Waterloo.
Winter Equinox utilizes a wide variety of instruments such as keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, percussion, flute, clarinet, and programmed rhythms to define their sound. The band takes influences from artists such as Tortoise, Mogwai, Manitoba, Explosions in the Sky, The Notwist, and Boards of Canada.
The skills and talents that these four members possess make Winter Equinox a unique and alluring listening experience. Members of the band are both classically-trained and influenced by jazz and rock music, which makes for a highly creative integration of sounds and styles.
Since their formation in May 2004, Winter Equinox has established themselves within many cities in Ontario. They have performed across the province, including venues in Toronto, Hamilton, Guelph, North Bay, Kingston, Brantford, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, and Stratford. Notably, the band was invited to perform at Wavelength Magazine’s Music Series while being featured within their monthly issue. The band plans to have a full length debut CD completed by the summer.
