artist WHY (the band)

 When the members of Canadian rock band WHY came together to create what would be known as the "RED" album, a two year project in the making, little did they realize the distance this record would travel . As they did with their last full length album "LAZARUS EFFECT," which received air play in major markets across Canada and raised money to support OXFAM, WHY continues to raise awareness for both themselves as well as Make Poverty History. The new full length CD "RED", featuring the single (and title track) "RED," has been well received by various radio stations worldwide. "RED" sat at #1 on the KICK FM Winnipeg TOP 40 for 4 weeks in a row, and was named SONG OF THE YEAR. Brad Pitt, another voice for the poorest people of the world, used "RED" on his MYSPACE page for a little over 2 months. The follow up single "THE SURFACE" charted, hitting #1 on KICK FM, #5 on THE Q FM in Victoria BC, and airplay from THE GOAT in Alberta, FREQ 107 in Winnipeg, (both singles have been receiving radio support at) DOWN FM in Northern Ireland, and radio in Australia. WHY released "BIG THUNDER, NO RAIN" with great response from radio and is being used by IMPOSSIBLE 2 POSSIBLE (www.impossible2possible.com), an organization to raise funds for water wells in developing countries. WHY first took shape in the late 90's in Winnipeg Manitoba, when Brian Cook (vocalist) gathered to himself talented musicians and together ventured out to see their musical ideas take form. As years passed and other commitments took hold, Brian and the guys continued to write and began to dedicate time to Make Poverty History. First introduced to the idea by heroes Bono (U2) and Bob Geldof (LIVE AID,LIVE 8,Boomtown Rats), WHY felt the need to use their music to raise awareness to the staggering fact that a child dies due to extreme poverty every 3 seconds. WHY is back in the studio and are releasing their new single "WE STARTED OUT(Somebody's Baby)," written by Brian and Paul Vieira (the newest member) to be featured on the WATERCAN website: www.watercan.com . ( WaterCan is a Canadian charity dedicated to ending poverty by helping the world's poorest people gain access to clean water, basic sanitation, hygiene education.)

The album itself featured newly remixed and or re-recorded tracks, the new single as well as a video recorded for the track, Keep My Peace. The album also offers links to the Make Poverty History websites as well as an interview Cook did with Shaw TV. "RED" sat a # 1 on the KICK FM Winnipeg TOP 40 for 4 weeks in a row, and was named SONG OF THE YEAR. Now the B-side on the "RED" single "THE SURFACE" has started to chart hitting #1 on KICK FM and #5 on THE Q FM in Victoria BC.
