biographical info

As a recognized member of the Toronto techno community, Vergel Evans has continued in producing music, participating in local events, and encouraging local artist friends for over 10 years. As an avid fan of technology, music, and electronic music culture, Vergel has experienced the rise and growth of electronic music from fringe, to mainstream.

Pressing his first vinyl release in 1998, the choice cut January’s End went on to become a timeless classic. A track appreciated by big name American dj’s such as Frankie Bones (in NYC) and Mike Huckaby (in Detroit). In the years since that inaugural release, Vergel has pressed multiple dub-plates & test pressings with various Toronto artists.

In 2004 Vergel took his label aspirations one step further with the creation of Theme:416, a dj mix of techno music from fellow artists and himself. The freely distributed audio CD and mp3 file were promoted on the net via the Theme:416 webpage and regularly received 200+ downloads per month from around the world. The success of this dj mix brought Vergel into a brief relationship with the Missing Unit record label. Producing the MU vinyl release "..Beyond..." (MU-008), Vergel masterminded an international campaign to get the vinyl release in the hands of key dj's who helped launch the record immediately into the mainstream. Containing 3 tracks from the dj mix, the record sold out of stock on it's initial run. The title track "Crushing" also went on to be licensed by Carl Craig for his Fabric 25 mix.

In the lessons learned from that, and a lifetime of projects, Vergel moved forward in building the Lx7.ca site & brand. The podcast show "Something in that square", has been charted by Scott Coldbourne as a top 5 essential podcast in the Globe and Mail (a Canadian national newspaper). And earned a respectable 5th place in the Business Week Online: Best of the Web 2006. The show has also ranked in the top 50 video podcast's on Podcast Alley (the industry standard of podcast listings) and currently enjoys a viewing/listening audience in excess of 500+ unique complete downloads per episode.

A successful spin off magazine Assembler Techno Fanzine, has already been embraced by the international community as a valuable PDF/print product. And although only in it's infancy, already generating support as a magazine worth collecting.

In his quest to share a deeper rational on why this music matters; Vergel has regularly released products that expose some of the humanity behind the music. As an artist his musical projects have evolved into an ever rising tide of successes. All while creating a natural balance between making music, sharing music, and inspiring his community. Weaving something extra into everything he does, his projects take on a personality beyond the expected, and always come on stronger then they initially seem.
