biographical info

All hail the massive Goliath: made up of equal parts old-fashioned cynicism and mammoth Herculean surges. Among an industrial jungle these men manage to sweat out boisterous, breakneck blasters. Keeping your ears bleeding; just the way you like them.

In just over two years Hamilton, Ontario’s VATICAN CHAINSAW MASSACRE has become one of the most exciting and hardest working new bands in Canadian hardcore. Originally forming as a guitar-less trio, the band is now a fully functional outfit consisting of vocalist Kevin Sheeler, guitarist Pat Marshall, bassist David O’Connor and drummer Nicholas Daleo.

From a dingy dungeon of doomed amplifiers they have emerged with a massive movement of sound and air through their amplified soul stealing mechanisms. And a 'fuck you' to ignorance.

Taking influences from a wide range of music styles, the band’s own musical tastes includes artists as varied as Disrupt, Lifetime, Sacrifice, Jeff Buckley, Burning Airlines and Hot Snakes. It is this variance in styles that help VCM stand out from the crowd and this is best exemplified on their debut release, Hazy Skies Over Martha’s Vineyard.

Recorded earlier this year with producer Donny Cooper (Cursed, Chore, Hoosier Poet) at Burlington, Ontario’s B-town Sound, Hazy Skies is just as challenging lyrically as it is musically, with vocalist Kevin Sheeler unafraid to speak his mind in his prose.

“Hazy Skies over Martha's Vineyard represents the sudden and unexpected demise of the 'American Golden Boy' John F Kennedy Jr,” says vocalist Sheeler of the album’s thematic slant. “It is the feel good story of the year with the dramatic twist. In a similar breath our local western 'golden boys' or 'chosen ones' meet this demise mentally when they come to the bitter realization that they are leading a life that was laid out for them. The frustration that their mind, feelings and perhaps creativity have all been pushed aside.  Many of the songs/themes on the record deal with this epiphany and the struggle to fight back after years of neglect.”
