biographical info
It was the fall of 2003 & 2 pairs of brothers combined their short attention spans and varied musical tastes (see: real prog rock, gypsy jazz & the beautiful noises of death metal) to create what now belongs under the moniker Veritas. It’s hard to believe that such a band would take their roots in the conservative cowboy-land of Calgary, Texas Alberta, but maybe it’s a rejection of the false ideals of this plastic city that drives them to the heights they achieve (or possibly it was destiny…you can debate it later).
Extremely technically proficient but without losing grasp of the raw emotional weight that allows listeners to connect with music, they use the setup of your basic band – pat: guitar, chris: guitar, matt: bass, mike: drums – however their sound is anything but those typically created by this simple combination. Mostly instrumental, (vocal usage lies at about the 6.47% level), their sound is sometimes pummeling, sometimes driving and sometimes graceful, but never boring.
As music can never lie stagnant for then it is dead, the songs Veritas create are constantly evolving into new beasts, rearing noises of bliss and wonder and hate w/ hope. Their first recording “black dark/black cold” is a snapshot captured on 05/24/04 (without the use of power chords), & marks the beginning of this tiny revolution. Without rest, water &/or nourishment, this band is ready to prove that music isn’t your haircut, shoes & awesome belt. It’s time to spread the word.
