Brian Milne and Kincaid Chan have been writing and playing music together since 1997. Venus and Fergus became their common name, and soon afterwards their younger brothers, Ross Milne and Tyler Chan, joined the group. In 1998 they began rehearsing in their basements amidst hectic school schedules and during the summers they were able to spend more time recording. Two full albums packed with unofficial material were recorded in 2000 alone, and in 2002 they were finally able to afford their first studio recording: an official self-titled debut, released with fledgling "label" of love, L'Hiver Recording Co. Venus and Fergus have since returned to the privacy of their own basement studio environment, enabling them to develop their ideas carefully and intentionally. Their recordings document the dramatic evolution of students fascinated by the learning process. They continue to experiment with new methods, sounds and directions, expertly communicating their best ideas before pushing into new territory; yet their sound remains unequivocally their own. Kincaid, Brian and Tyler currently live in Calgary where they pursue post-secondary degrees while Ross has moved to Vancouver to study fine arts, modern design and communication at Emily Carr Institute. Although the separation has strained their collaborative process, it has also afforded them opportunities to develop other projects. Venus and Fergus.
