biographical info
From piano bars in Bellevelle, ON, to life as a full-time busker on the streets of Georgia and the Carolinas; from the Kingston cafe scene to Montreals bright lights; from Zen Monasteries to Toronto Goth clubs, Tracie Morgan has seen it all...and played it all
It is this rich blend of sound and backdrop that makes Morgans new release Naked On Main Street so diverse and unique.
Mirroring her own musical journey, the album moves through Rock, Folk, Blues, Celtic and Pop like a drive across country, with Morgans deep, versatile voice the highway that carries the listener along.
While songs like the lead single Orphans & Ghosts and Pretty Pollution pay tribute to acts like Live and Nirvana, others like the thought-provoking Fine Line and the reflective hymn The Only One harken back to the works of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Artists ranging from Peter Gabriel era Genesis to Irelands Hothouse Flowers to Coldplay also make their mark on Morgans music and lyrics.
Morgan shines as a virtual One-Woman-Band, performing nearly all the tracks. An accomplished Guitar and Keyboard player, she has recently added Drums, Bass, Fluits, Recorders and Whistles to her repertoire in instruments. Although some of the tracks are raw and informal, the overall feel of the disc is immediate and real. Each track feels like a leap of faith, hence the albums title.
Naked On Main Street is an album for all tastes, and a breath of fresh air in an age where anger is in style and everything must be categorized...
Enjoy the ride...
