biographical info

The Shack Recordings by Tom Wilson & Bob Lanois is the most natural artistic treatment of original songs to be heard in a long time. Recorded in Bob Lanois’ shack located outside Hamilton, ON, the album was made during 15 recording sessions that spanned a year & a half. The duo used ancient recording gear (owned by Bob & Daniel Lanois) that lent itself to the pure performance captured on two inch tape. Wilson is a 3 time Juno Award winner & has toured the world with his band Junkhouse, & presently the Canadian Roots Super group, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings which have picked up fans as diverse as Merle Haggard, The Cash family, Joel & Ethan Cohen, & U.S. president George W. Bush. Planet Love, the debut release from Wilson, spawned the hit single “dig It” which appeared in a handful of movies & T.V. shows state side. His songs have been recorded by artists including Colin James, Mavis Staples, Murray McLaughlin, & Billy Ray Cyrus to name a few. He continues to write & perform solo all over North America. Bob Lanois is an interpretive artist both visually & musically. With his brother Daniel Lanois & Brian Eno, Bob hosted the Birth of what would be known as ambient music. Bob also produced & engineered the first punk album, Simply Saucer (recognized as a ground breaking musical statement) & also produced one of the first singer/songwriters to come out of Canada when he recorded Willie P. Bennett’s “Blackie & the Rodeo Kings.”
