biographical info

Tim Aylesworth is a singer/songwriter from Kingston, Ontario. His music blends elements of folk and rock with a dash of 60's jangle pop.  Tim's love of the guitar shines through every song.

Tim fell in love with the guitar at about 10 years old, learning most of the chords from a Beatles songbook.  As a teenager he sang and played guitar and drums in rock bands.

In his early twenties, Tim decided that the rock and roll lifestyle wasn't for him and concentrated on family life while continuing to write songs and record music.  His tapes, featuring Tim playing all the instruments were circulated to friends and family.

In 2005 Tim released his self-produced debut CD I Will blending elements of Folk, County, Celtic and Jazz anchored by lyrical guitar playing.

Tim set up his home studio "Rushin' Draggin" in March 2006 and in 2007 released his second CD, Dream of Sleep.

In March 2011, Tim released his third independent CD entitled Release the Lion.  Why that title?  Tim explains, “I really wanted to cut loose a bit and take chances with my songwriting and the arrangements and let the songs rock if that's what they wanted to do. Once the lion idea came to mind, I started putting lions in every song.  A few lion references remain, if you listen closely."

Tim records his music in his home studio and played most of the instruments on Release the Lion with some help from his sons, Zachary and Jesse.  He has been the guitar player for Open Voices Community Choir in Kingston for ten years, a regular gig he loves.

He has also ventured into musical theatre, most recently playing Niki Sullivan, the guitar player in "The Buddy Holly Story.  Tim is also delighted that a song he wrote, “Everyday Heroes” will be the theme song for 2011 Kingston United Way Campaign.

“I'm really proud of this CD”, says Tim, “and I hope a lot of people hear it and enjoy the music.”

Boxes of CDs

March 26, 2011

I came home last night and there were boxes on my front step full of my CDs. This is the third time I’ve open boxes and looked at my CDs inside. It was just as thrilling this time—even more so because I’m so excited about this release.

I’m thinking of how to do a CD release show—my idea is to play a solo acoustic set, just me and my guitar and then a full band set for the rockier stuff. Kind of like Neil Young in “Rust Never Sleeps” except without the roadeyes and giant amps. I just had a thought – I could call it “The Lion Never Sleeps”!

I’m going to try to shoot some video this weekend for posting to YouTube, acoustic performances of the songs from “Release the Lion” We’ll see how that goes. I know, I’ll call it “Unplug the Lion”!
