A double thumbs up and a pumped-fist salute today to Marc Little and the Watermen with their efforts to become part of the fabric of our national culture with their submission of a new "Hockey Night in Canada" theme. The reason for the accolades has little to do with their video entry(which by the way, I find brilliant and at least deserving of some serious consideration). Instead, I find myself admiring the level of perserverance that forms 90% of what is underneath the tip of the iceberg you will watch and listen to on-screen. I can recall the first time I saw Marc Little belt out a scorching version of the Eagles "Desperado" back in the late 80's when he was an up-and-comer, starting to get serious about the music business. I have watched with interest how his career has unfolded and no matter what turns it has taken, Marc has steadily built up a fan base of people who admire the heart and soul he brings to his music. With his latest project, "The Watermen", Marc has strategically added branding elements which are slowly starting to make waves in the market place with professional visuals and a growing web prescence. (http://www.watermen.ca/) Along with fellow "Watermen" Tom Thompson, Paul Boudreau, Denis Mongrain and Gilles Savoie, the band produced a self-titled, debut album which has been released by Magada Distribution out of Montreal. The decades of hard work may be about to pay off in a big way but no matter what comes of this HNIC project, one can't deny the sincerity of the effort that Marc has demonstrated in following his passion for music and nurturing his skills as an artist along the way.

Moncton singer pens hockey song Published Wednesday August 6th, 2008 Video for Hockey Night in Canada theme submission to be shot this weekend A9 TIMES & TRANSCRIPT STAFF Metro Moncton singer Marc Little and his band The Watermen will be shooting a video this weekend to accompany his entry in the Hockey Night in Canada theme song contest, and is inviting fans to join in the fun. Little wrote the song, It's Hockey Night, in response to CBC-TV's call for submissions for a new theme song for the landmark Saturday night broadcast of NHL hockey. Little's submission has three full verses of lyrics with a chorus of: "There's just no stopping us, 'cause the boys are shootin' just like The Rocket, Game on! It's hockey night!"Yesterday, Little invited people to the video shoot, which will be done on Saturday afternoon at the Dobson Arena in Riverview, Sunday afternoon at the Kouchibouguac dock and Sunday, Aug. 20 at the J. Louis Levesque Arena in Moncton. The Watermen released a new album earlier this year and have been busy performing around Moncton this summer, including a Main Street stage show during the Atlanticade Motorcycle Festival.

Ozzy Ozborne The Watermen Debut The Watermen (self-titled) Independent (***) A Moncton band makes its debut with this seven song EP of adult pop rock in the vein of Bryan Adams and The Eagles. Five of the tracks are written by singer/guitarist Marc Little, plus there are covers of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your man" and Woody Guthrie's"Way Over Yonder". The original songs are about love, war and relationships-typical, but timeless themes. They're standard radio-friendly rock tunes for the most part, but that's not to say they aren't well written. This doesn't sound like a debut, it sounds like a collection of songs from seasoned veterans. The two most interesting tracks are "Matador" and "way Over Yonder", both of which have a spanish influence you don't hear often in these parts. There is some great guitar work going on throughout the album. Fans of Bryan Adams should dig songs like "What You Mean To Me" and " I Just Don't Have A Clue". Little's voice is even similar to the Canadian Rock Legend. A solid debut from these local boys. Marc studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto Ontario, Canada. He weekly commuted to Kitchener to see Brian Volmer to hone his craft. "I was blown away by Volmer's vocal power. I had to learn to sing all over again because I was completely singing in my throat which catches up to you after years of singing in smokey bars. " The summer of 1994, Marc went on the road with Ray Lyell and the storm from Hamilton, Ontario. "I learned a lot from Ray and the band.
