biographical info
The Swyves play some Bad-Ass Jazz. Think of a cross between later Coltrane and Motorhead. The sound of The Swyves can teeter-toter between all out energy freak out to introspective silences. The band consists of Jay Hay on woodwinds including Soprano,Alto,Tenor and Baritone sax, Bb and Bass Clarinet; Aaron Lumley on Acoustic Bass; Dan Gaucher on Drum set and Percussion; and a frequent special guest is Jeremy Strachan on Tenor and Baritone sax. The Swyves focus on the compositions of Jay Hay, but have been known to play pieces by thier forebearers in the free/improvised jazz lexicon such as Ornette Coleman. The Swyves have recently released thier debut recording on the Toronto co-operative label Blocks Recording Club. It's availble on itunes, so go get some!
