biographical info
When you think Montreal, what comes to mind? Bars and booze? Sex and strippers?
Drugs and dorms? Hailing from the land of poutine, The Real Deal is all that
wrapped into one! Well…not quite…
Coming together in 2003, The Real Deal
has since put out 3 recordings; the most recent “Hungover, But Dead Sober” can
be purchased in record stores across North America via
Warner/Lumberjack/Mordam.
To date, they have played over 250 shows across
Canada and the United States. They have toured with some incredible bands (Less
Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, The Flatliners, Set Your Goals, Protest the Hero, just
to name a few). They’ve played some bigger festivals like the Victoria’s Annual
Ska Fest and the 2005 and 2008 Warped Tour. They’ve put out videos. They’ve been
on the radio. They’ve been on TV. They’ve been broke. They’ve been less broke.
They’ve always had a good time and they don’t plan to stop anytime
soon…
What really gives these punk kids their edge is their DIY ethic.
We’re not talking, “we put up a flyer…once…for a show…a local show…2 years ago”;
we’re talking taking it to the country, booking their own tours, being their own
publicist, managing their own funds, filing their own paper work, writing their
own bio!
With the oldest member quickly aging (he’s going on 24!) The
Real Deal is proud to have accomplished, by their early twenties, what many
bands fail to do throughout their entire careers. Sky’s the limit! Plans to
visit the UK and Japan have been in the works for some time and they hope to
make the trip in the new year!
For the recording of “Hungover, But Dead
Sober”, The Real Deal gained the aid of badass producer and engineer Steve Foote
(that big Boston thug who plays with Big D and The Kids Table) and have joined
forces with Canada’s most respected Union Label Group/Union 2112 Records for the
North American release. Stoked! They are now actively looking to license their
music abroad.
