Odds are Back
Formed in Vancouver, B.C. in late 1987 the “Odds” went on to record 16 chart topping singles and earn numerous Juno nominations. “Someone Who’s Cool” went to #1 in Canada and sat top 10 in the United States for several months. They twice achieved top 40 success in Europe and the US. Their other top 10 triumphs included “Eat My Brain”, “Truth Untold”, “Make You Mad”, “Satisfied”, “Heterosexual Man”, “Nothing Beautiful” and “It Falls Apart”. Their 4 albums have so far netted them one Platinum and two Gold awards. Their catchy, tongue in cheek delivery was enhanced by the many memorable music videos that accompanied their hits – “the Kids in Hall” in drag for “Heterosexual Man”, the monster truck car chase with “Junkhouse” & “the Pursuit of Happiness” for “Eat My Brain” and the groundbreaking metamorphoses and stop-action of “Someone Who’s Cool”. Indeed these sights and songs spread around the world as “Odds” were embraced by the public, their peers and even Beavis and Butthead!
In the recent past the “Odds” have enjoyed resurgence in popularity as their songs have appeared as the themes to hit TV shows. “Someone Who’s Cool” was the theme to NBC’s “Love Monkey” starring Tom Cavanagh (Ed, Scrubs) and Craig Northey and the band sing the theme to CTV’s mega-hit “Corner Gas”. In fact the song “My Happy Place” from “Corner Gas” appears on the New Odds CD. What? New Odds?
2008 brings the band full circle as they release their newest album “Cheerleader” under the moniker “the New Odds”. After two successful concert cruises with their pals the Barenaked Ladies, they brought their new material to this year’s Juno Fest. Now its time to take the New Odds show on the road. Catch them this spring, summer and fall as they take their boundless enthusiasm …yes… their “Cheerleader” to the people.
