biographical info
In the beginning, the three members of Euphrates, Nofy Fannan (Production), Habillis (Production) and the Narcicyst (MC) became involved with Hip Hop as fans. Having grown up in a turbulent time for Arabs in the Middle East and by extensions, in the West, they became increasingly aware of the impact of politics on the world. Recognizing how Hip Hop was used as a communication tool by its originators in New York, in the year 1998, the trio decided that they would put Hip Hop to work for the people, as it was always meant to be. Blending Middle Eastern melodies with hard, polyrhythmic drums, Euphrates found a formula that spoke to their people (and indeed others), the initial result was their first single entitled “The Letter” which was Euphrates’ response to the first Gulf War in the form of an audio letter to the President of the United States at the time. “The Letter” was featured on international radio stations and heard by people from all over the world. Later, Habillis and Nofy (aka SandhiLL) became the production unit and evolved to include many different sounds from different eras into their music thus breathing new life into it. The Narcicyst, known for his innate talent for poetry and writing, perfected his MCing skills, tackling not only politics but also all aspects of life, and established himself as one of the most versatile and creative MCs on the scene.
