Crafting a new Canadian sound.

WINNER of the 2007 Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of The Year - Group.
WINNER of the 2006 Canadian Folk Music Awards for Best World Group & Best Instrumental Group.
WINNER of the 2007 Independent Music Award for Best World Album (traditional).

Nominated for two 2007 WCMAs, Outstanding Roots Recording, Duo/ Group & Best Album Design.

Punching through the walls of tradition, The McDades’ celtic rooted music fuses the spontaneity of jazz improvisation and infectious global rhythms. Their cutting edge sound is the perfect complement to their fiery performances. “It’s hot stuff and very entertaining.” (Tom Knapp, Dirty Linen)

At the heart of the group are siblings Shannon, Solon & Jeremiah who grew up playing Canadian folk music alongside their parents and among artists from around the world, a unique upbringing that led to a love and respect for all music. Their groundbreaking compositions and innovative arrangements are characterized by stunning virtuosity and a near-telepathic interaction on stage. Shannon’s lyrical fiddle, Jeremiah’s searing winds and Solon’s smooth bass create the rich foundation for this adventurous band.

The siblings are joined by Simon Marion a multi-faceted guitarist whose influences range from Madonna to jazz, and François Taillefer, a magnetic hand-drumming nomad who has traveled the world studying ethnic rhythms on percussion. The musical diversity of this tight five-piece celebrates the very idea of what it means to be a Canadian musician.

With vocal harmonies that can only come from a family, and an obvious love for each other and their music, The McDades’ sound is immersed in the spirit of improvisation. Featuring both energetic instrumentals and sensitive vocals performed in English and French, this compelling and dynamic group “find their groove somewhere between a down-home kitchen party, a jazzy after hours club, and a folk festival.” (London Free Press)

With the release of their second CD “Bloom”, The McDades continue to stretch the boundaries of modern tradition.

New CD - Terry McDade & The McDades - Winter Rose - Out Now!

posted by The McDades
We're happy to say that our new cd WINTER ROSE is now available. To hear it visit one of the links below! http://www.terrymcdade.com/?page_id=48 http://www.facebook.com/themcdades http://www.youtube.com/themcdades Terry McDade And The McDades Bring Their Yuletide Musical Greetings to Alberta Communities When one thinks of music that so beautifully accompanies the blankets of snow that cover our prairie landscapes, and highlight our anticipation of being able to spend time with family and friends as the holiday and Christmas season approaches, there is no better musical backdrop for such a time as the one created by Terry McDade and The McDades. The stunning sound of Terry McDade's Harp strings, as they magnify the best of midwinter merriment, or remind us of the peaceful solitude found in a walk in a shimmering snow laden forest, are as alluring and inviting as the season itself. Terry McDade has made a name for himself when it comes to performing music that is tailor made for this season and with his children, the Juno Award-Winning McDades, Albertans can ready themselves for a string of concerts celebrating not only the season but Winter Rose, the brand new recording from Terry McDade and The McDades. A collection of carols and traditional and contemporary folk gems, with a beautiful rendition of Pete Seeger's Snow Snow, and a gorgeous reading of Ron Sexsmith's Maybe this Christmas among them, Winter Rose picks up where the McDade clan Midwinter and Noel recordings left off. "I so look forward to this time of the year, when the kids make themselves available for these shows and we're able to spend a few weeks together making music. And in turn we are able to bring people together to celebrate the season," says the McDade family patriarch. He is after all, the man who instilled a love for all kinds of music in his children by , with his wife Danielle, teaching them at an early age. He also set them in front of audiences as soon as the fiddle playing Shannon, the multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah and the Bass playing Solon were able to work as an ensemble. Music fans across Canada certainly understand the high level of talent found in the music of the McDades as the group won a Juno Award for Best Roots and Traditional Album for 2007 for their Bloom recording. the siblings mirrored that honour by taking home the Best World & Best Instrumental Group Recording honours for the same album at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
