Terry McDade And The McDades Bring Their Yuletide Musical Greetings to Alberta Communities
When one thinks of music that so beautifully accompanies the blankets of snow that cover our prairie landscapes, and highlight our anticipation of being able to spend time with family and friends as the holiday and Christmas season approaches, there is no better musical backdrop for such a time as the one created by Terry McDade and The McDades.
The stunning sound of Terry McDade's Harp strings, as they magnify the best of midwinter merriment, or remind us of the peaceful solitude found in a walk in a shimmering snow laden forest, are as alluring and inviting as the season itself.
Terry McDade has made a name for himself when it comes to performing music that is tailor made for this season and with his children, the Juno Award-Winning McDades, Albertans can ready themselves for a string of concerts celebrating not only the season but Winter Rose, the brand new recording from Terry McDade and The McDades.
A collection of carols and traditional and contemporary folk gems, with a beautiful rendition of Pete Seeger's Snow Snow, and a gorgeous reading of Ron Sexsmith's Maybe this Christmas among them, Winter Rose picks up where the McDade clan Midwinter and Noel recordings left off.
"I so look forward to this time of the year, when the kids make themselves available for these shows and we're able to spend a few weeks together making music. And in turn we are able to bring people together to celebrate the season," says the McDade family patriarch.
He is after all, the man who instilled a love for all kinds of music in his children by , with his wife Danielle, teaching them at an early age. He also set them in front of audiences as soon as the fiddle playing Shannon, the multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah and the Bass playing Solon were able to work as an ensemble. Music fans across Canada certainly understand the high level of talent found in the music of the McDades as the group won a Juno Award for Best Roots and Traditional Album for 2007 for their Bloom recording. the siblings mirrored that honour by taking home the Best World & Best Instrumental Group Recording honours for the same album at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
