biographical info
The Johnnys are a high-energy rock’n’roll act anchored by the duo of Veronica Johnny (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) and Dave Johnny (drums/backing vocals). They appear live backed by a bassist and lead guitar.
Shortly after marrying, the couple formed the group in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, inspired by early rock’n’roll and the first wave of punk with their commitment to fast tempos, stripped-down arrangements and tongue-in-cheek lyrics.
In 2006 they relocated to Toronto, quickly making a splash on the local scene. They were highlighted in a 2006 issue of Spirit Magazine, and appeared on the cover of that publication’s annual music issue the following year.
The Johnnys’ 2007 debut CD ‘I Like It A Lot’ was engineered by Veronica and produced by Dave. The recording’s energy and old-school sound received rave reviews from college and online radio, and led to three 2008 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards nominations (Best New Artist, Best Rock Album, Best Duo or Group) and a Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards nomination for Best Producer-Engineer.
The band played live on the nationally televised broadcast of the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards, and have been featured on APTN’s Entertainment Beat and CTV’s First Story.
