biographical info

After more than twenty years spent working with some of the music industry’s most accomplished talents and becoming known as a drummer and producer, Dave King is poised to take the lead with his new project The Heavy Dream.

Throughout his career as a musician and producer, King has contributed to the success of many Canadian acts. His resume includes working with Grammy, Juno and Genie award winn...ers, as well as having credits in television and film, and production credits for Burlington’s Sandman Viper Command, Kori Pop, Dave Rave and Steve Strongman. Most recently, touring with Strongman has taken King around the world to festivals in Europe, Mexico and the United States. Only now, however, has King truly taken a step into the spotlight with The Heavy Dream.

King admits that throughout the process of writing and recording, he questioned whether the world needed “one more record”. With his musical efforts coming to fruition in The Heavy Dream, King answered this question with a resounding “yes”. For him, there is always room for music - regardless of how jam-packed the airwaves may seem to be these days.

The debut album under The Heavy Dream moniker, Under The Golden Sun (INDR006) is a collaboration between King and like-minded musicians and friends including Pat Sansone (Wilco, The Autumn Defense) and Paul Linklater (The Pinecone, Colleen and Paul). Working primarily out of his own Barn Window Studio in Caistor Centre, Ontario – King and company have created a record that reflects both lifelong influences and contemporary favourites. For King, there is a focus on songs - which is made clear when listening to the album. Each track brings something different to the table - a feature that will attract a wide variety of music lovers, young and old.

The title track and first single Under The Golden Sun sets the tone for a record that combines new and old elements, and asks quite fittingly, “are you tuning in?” For those who are, there is something here for everyone. With comparisons already being made to The Beatles’ White Album and The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds - for its rich harmonies and ecclectic blend of songs, Under The Golden Sun has the potential to make a significant mark in a seemingly over-crowded musical landscape.
