biographical info
If you can't sing a song in the shower and have it make sense, have it stick in your head like a fish on a hook the first time you hear it, so that you sing it to yourself all day, all month--then what are you listening to? Because it ain't great pop music. I knew The Golden Seals. I worked with The Golden Seals. The Golden Seals were friends of mine, and you, sir, are no Jack Kennedy. Instantly memorable melodies, one magical chord progression after another, songs that are hummable but not insipid. Some of the best damn pop music I ever heard. That's how I remember The Golden Seals. A good friend of mine who used to wear some pretty sharp hats always said that a good song lasts forever. I think what he meant was that a song that made 'em cry in '48 will still make 'em cry a hundred years later. Too bad he didn't get to hear these numbers. --Shaky Banks
