Definition: done for informalin a situation so bad it is impossible to get out

The DoneFors’ Award Winning Album (independent, 2011) – showcases this incomparable band in shining form. Pretty, naughty things, melancholy traveling, false heroes, small town woes, political cost, and memories lost are themes explored in this sophomore achievement. Produced by The DoneFors’, this album features the prowess of Canadian audio giants Michael Phillip Wojewoda (mixing), João Carvalho (mastering), and Jeremy Darby (recording). Award Winning Album was officially celebrated with a release performance at The Dakota Tavern in Toronto, on September 22nd, 2011.

Intrinsically multi-phonic yet cohesive, The DoneFors prove to be nomadic in their musical influences. Elements of rock, contemporary pop, progressive folk, jazz, world music and country merge to bolster The DoneFors’ signature sound which they’ve coined Canadiana Vanguard — a musical expression that spans genres, stretches boundaries, and stays rooted in an instrument’s organic sound. The DoneFors make a valiant attempt to defy what is hip in order to make music for musicians, music for pets, and music for music lovers to discover and appreciate when The DoneFors have died; literally.

The DoneFors formed in 2006 and comprise acclaimed singer-songwriter Janine Stoll, electric guitar player/songwriter Paul MacDougall, electric bass player/songwriter Liam Smith, and drummer Brian Lahaie. The band released their debut album — How to have sex with Canadians — in 2009 to critical praise. Produced by The DoneFors, and mastered by João Carvalho, the album is a landmark of a project displaying timeless virtuosity.

Notable past performances include Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival ’11, Germany and Netherlands Tour ’11, Edge of the World Festival '11, ArtsWells '11, Come Together Festival ’10, Northern Lights Festival ’09, Cabbagetown Street Festival ’09, Open Door Music Festival ’07, OCFF Official Showcase ’06, Junction Arts Festival ‘06, Plan B Harvest Festival ’06, and successful residencies at Toronto venues The Cameron House and Not My Dog.

The DoneFors want to be your “new favourite band”. Don’t be afraid. They’ll take good care of you.

The DoneFors June News | New Video | Nunavut | New Residency

posted by donefors

Hey cupcakes!

Good, any you?  It's been a while since we danced, yes?  So let's shake a leg and hop to it!  You look smashing, dear.

We've got some things!  Fun things!

NEW VIDEO:  FIGURE IT OUT

For the past couple of months, one of the universe’s most talented girls has held a song cover contest for her newly released song “Figure it Out” from the album Backseat Heroine. That gorgeous creature is Emma-Lee. Now, The DoneFors don’t typically cover many songs, or do contesty things, but this contest seemed too good to be true. We could win a huge fantastic prize and the only thing we had to do was cover a great song. We couldn’t just do a straight up cover of it, though. We had to toil away in rehearsal for hours DoneFors-ifying it. What resulted was quite a different version from the original. We’re proud of it, and we hope you like it too!

Recorded live-off-the floor at CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio by videographer Chad Nunn and audio engineer John MacLean (mixed by our very own drummer, Brian Lahaie) this is our rendition of “Figure It Out” (written by Emma-Lee and Karen Kosowski):

NEW LIVE VIDEO SURFACES - WHITEHORSE + THE DONEFORS + LISA WINN

For those who don't know in 2011 The DoneFors lead singer Janine Stoll and her two best friends, Melissa McClelland and Lisa Winn, started an animal rescue group called Ladybird Animal Sanctuary.  Funded entirely by donations from kind people like you and run entirely on love and volunteering, the Ladybirds have managed to save the lives of 70 at risk animals in the greater Hamilton region since January 2011.  In December the Ladybirds held a benefit concert at This Ain't Hollywood in Hamilton with performances by The DoneFors, Whitehorse and other great acts.  Here's a video that recently surfaced of a Whitehorse performance (featuring Melissa McClelland and husbandLuke Doucet) backed up by Lisa Winn and The DoneFors own Janine Stoll (backing vocals), Liam Smith (bass) and Brian Lahaie (drums).  A super cute collaboration and an incredible song.  "Passenger 24"...

Summers poking out early, folks!  Go enjoy it.  And keep your ears out for some new songs that we'll be releasing soon. Very delicious stuff.

We'll see you on the road.  We promise to stop if you need a lift.

Love and mustard,

janine, paul, liam and brian
