biographical info
i play guitar and sing. i grew up on a farm and moved to a city. i listened to a lot of punk rock. i do a lot of food security and labour solidarity activism.
i look forward to seeing musicians organize collectively to support each other's creation of art, whether its through financial or resource assistance, emotional and mental support, or logistical help on tours or at shows.
From Laura Falsetto, of The Fulcrum:
SELF PROCLAIMED AS “an out-of-tune, off-beat guitar with a shaky,
unconfident voice,” this Ottawa-based singer-songwriter is armed with an
acoustic guitar and vocals complimented by a fervour for music. The
Ashton Starr’s acoustic tracks, which seem to be more driven by emotion
than complexity, are reminiscent of the early musical stylings of Dallas
Green and Dashboard Confessional. Inspired by “love and still, snowy
winter nights,” he compliments a relaxing evening in with a cup of hot
tea and a good book. Since 2005, The Ashton Starr has been filling the
ears of his online following with emotion packed tracks such as
“Observations” and “Memoirs on the Bus”. While his recordings are rough
and seem to be done with haste, one can clearly hear the dedication and
passion of The Ashton Starr.
Sounds like: A young man, filled with passion and aching love, recorded songs to send to his girlfriend.
