biographical info

The Uncas always entertain. Depending on the song you may find Sook hanging from the rafters, John skil-sawing an acoustic guitar, or Futch flying through the air. Young and old, people are attracted to the stage when The Uncas break out their extremely original brand of punk-country. The Uncas have appeared all across Western Canada. They turned many heads in Vancouver at the 2004 Festival of Guns (an Outlaw Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival), stirred up the 2003 Calgary Stampede, and created a commotion at the 2002 North Country Fair in Joussard, Alberta. This young, talented, and incredibly versatile band has also become local favourites in tourist destinations like Canmore and Jasper. The Uncas have a huge following Edmonton, and have opened for many notable acts, including multiple Western Canadian dates with The Corb Lund Band, and Juno award winner Jenny Whitely. Drawing comparisons to Ween, Phish, Primus, The Supersuckers, and The Band, The Uncas always remain true to their C & W influences (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings) while adding an intense raw energy (a la early Rolling Stones) and frenetic jams. All five members sing, and each member can play any instrument on the stage. This versatility adds excitement and freshness to their maniac performances. With four songwriters in the band The Uncas never run out of original songs to sing. The Uncas are releasing a new full length album in the fall of 2004.
