biographical info
The act of categorizing music is a difficult one, in particular for those artists who do not wish to be pigeon holed into one category. This situation is especially compounded when the common conception of a particular musical style is not representative of what that style is. This is the case of ska music and in particular that of The Hoodwinks. In reality, ska is part of a rich tradition of Jamaican music which also includes Reggae and Rocksteady. It is from these Jamaican rhythms that The Hoodwinks derive much of their inspiration. However The Hoodwinks are equally indebted to the sounds of British R&B, & American Soul as well as certian acts from the late seventies punk scene. However despite the fact that their influences come from times past, The Hoodwinks are not revivalists. In the end, upon listening to The Hoodwinks it is clear that they are combining their many influences to create a
sound of their own, one that is both modern and classic at the same time.
