biographical info
The Coast (formerly the July 26th Movement) grew up out of the sleepy edges of Canada's largest metropolis. Comprised of two sets of friends, the four boys from Toronto began their musical career playing in high school without any formal musical training. The Coast features Benjamin Spurr (lead vocals and guitar), Ian Fosbery (guitar and keyboards), Luke Melchiorre-bass), and Jordan Melchiorre (drums).
Named for the Paul Simon song from Rhythm of The Saints, the Coast is a band that while not always sounding conventional, has a great pop sensibility about them. A move to the bright lights of the city found the now young men in the midst of a vastly cultural and diverse community. Entrenched in the flooded music scene of Toronto, the Coast strives to set their music apart from the cultural milieu that most bands form themselves in. Sharing the same collective influences as many of their contemporaries - New Order, the Smiths, the Verve, U2 - the band relies on its own songwriting to make their mark. Much like one of their favorite artists Paul Simon, the Coast always puts songs before aesthetic when it comes to music.
