biographical info
Falling asleep beside drum kits and being packed into a gear-laden 1987 Toyota Tercel were typical moments in the upbringing of Caroline and Katherine. Born and raised in Whitby, Ontario the Brooks Sisters have been steeped in music for all of their lives. Caroline and Katherine started off performing with their family band Brookfield but soon the two were antsy to follow their own musical adventures.
In Fall 2002, the girls headed to the stage as “The Brooks Sisters”, paying homage to their family and folky roots. Caroline and Katherine began playing their intimate originals in solo shows and while opening for the likes of Katherine Wheatley and Ron Sexsmith in venues across Southern Ontario including Toronto’s Free Times Café and Hugh’s Room; Hamilton’s The Casbah; and Greenbank’s Folk Society.
Finally in the spring of 2005, with the friendship of associate producer Graeme Cornies and financial assistance from FACTOR, they released their first full-length album, "The Carport Sessions".
Influenced by the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Sarah Harmer, Nick Drake, Teitur, and Joni Mitchell, The Sisters have managed to craft their own beautiful blend of folk and pop. The sisters’ soaring voices and tight, clean harmonies captivate a sound that only common blood can create. Coupled with heartfelt lyrics, some fine guitar playing, and a show full of lively banter, these sisters are sure to wow!
