biographical info

"You're such an incredible songwriter . . . I want that music out there for the world to have!"—Amanda Putz, CBC Radio. Amplight, Sylvia Pollard's first CD, is now available. Composer, musician, guitar teacher, Sylvia Pollard brings her electric guitar to the forefront as the singer of these songs.

Many of the songs on Amplight were composed with lyrics; the lyrics are gone, but the poetry remains.

Amplight is filled with a sense of exhilaration. The lone communication tower on the cover represents reaching out—to Nature, the Universe, everything beyond one’s self. Layering melodies and rhythms, Sylvia's music reflects and creates a complexity of musical and emotional expression.

Here's what listeners are saying: "beautiful and so sensual" . . . "very impressionistic and almost always evokes loneliness" . . . "I would love to paint to this music" . . . "lots of strength but delicate too" . . . "I feel like I am outside" . . . "the sound of your instrument is so pure" . . . "wonderful guitar work" . . . "great film music" . . . "I've always loved this piece (Pink Lilies)—it's a haunting image—rolling across northern Ontario"

Sylvia was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia, and currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario. Growing up, she lived in numerous Canadian cities and spent four years in Germany. Combined with her degree in English & Geography, Sylvia has a natural tendency to take inspiration from landscapes.

Q: Should I remove my demos?

posted by pollard

For those of you who receive my blog postings, I have a question to ask you. I am thinking of deleting the demo versions of my songs. Is this a good idea? On the positive side, it would clean things up and be less confusing, and it would make sense to showcase the final mastered versions. On the negative side, my stats (playlisted and total plays) would go down. I don't mind if my stats go down, per se, but if people have playlisted demo versions I think those songs will get deleted from their playlists, rather than automatically replaced with the final versions. One other note, I would leave "Pink Lilies (demo)" because I think that is the version that was Track of the Day, and I would leave "Past Lives (demo)" because that remains the only version of that song. If you have any thoughts, they will be most appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Update: One month later, the deed has been done.
