biographical info
SWINGOLOGY, based in and around Windsor, Nova Scotia, plays light and lively acoustic gypsy swing – familiar, entertaining, happy, melodic music that is popular with all ages – with finesse, personality and humour. We’ll take you back to Paris of the 1930’s, a time when swing was king, when Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelli formed the Quintet of the Hot Club of France and created a unique style never since matched for its driving rhythm, inventiveness and excitement. Their music continues to astonish listeners over 60 years after Django's death.
Django's music was kept alive by the gypsies and preserved on 100's of 78 RPM records. It is now undergoing a huge renaissance, with Hot Club style bands carrying on the tradition all over the world. SWINGOLOGY is dedicated to bringing this music to new fans in Nova Scotia and elsewhere.
We have appeared at the Halifax Jazz Festival, Stayner's Wharf (Halifax), The Music Room (Halifax), King's Theatre (Annapolis Royal), the Chester Playhouse, Lane's Privateer Inn, The Carleton (Halifax), and other top venues around Nova Scotia. Both of our CDs (Swingology and Under Paris Skies) were nominated for awards by Music Nova Scotia and the ECMA, and our debut CD Swingology was selected as 2008 Jazz Recording of the Year by MUsic Nova Scotia.
